Testimonial: Sam
“Sam had some severe anxieties, ie separation anxiety, nail biting, fear of going to the toilet in school, obsession with germs. He was stuttering when starting a sentence and frequently saying ‘pardon?’ needing everything repeated. Sam was easily distracted in class, and would fidget excessively during ‘carpet time’ whilst listening to stories etc. He was would give up very easily if he found a task too difficult, and was extremely moody, and sulky, especially first thing in the morning, and after school. Sam was overly emotional when playing with his peers, and extremely empathetic if someone or something was hurt in any way.
Vivienne advised that some of these traits were age appropriate, but were extreme, and his emotional level needed to be brought down. We started the Wilbarger Therapressure Brushing 7-8 times a day and then started the music therapy (therapeutic listening) twice a day. Vivienne worked with Sam on ‘I can and I will’, and not giving up when he found some of the apparatus too difficult. Vivienne also worked with Sam on his sulking, and how to control his feelings, while also building his confidence on the apparatus.
Sam has made fantastic progress over the last 6 months. He is able to play with his peers without getting over emotional when physically or emotionally hurt. His stutter has gone completely, and he no longer bites his finger nails. He does not give up so easily when finding a task too difficult, and his teacher has given him an award for his huge improvement in sitting still and concentrating in class. We do still need to repeat ourselves, but his ‘pardon?’ has reduced quite significantly.
Kids Matters, and Vivienne have made a huge difference to Sam, and our family as a whole. A great deal of time is taken to get to know Sam, and to really work with his problems. Many people have noticed a positive change in Sam, and it makes all the time and effort involved very worthwhile. Without this help from Vivienne, Sam would have more than likely got worse over time. We feel extremely confident in Kids Matters, and cannot thank them enough for all they have done for us.”
